Speakeasy Directions for History Students

THE PROGRAM

The way this program works is basically organized according the following hierarchy:

Neighborhood: ECFS

Studio/Cafe: US History

Event: Unit of Study

Tables: Discussion areas.

THE CAFE

To Begin

Go to http://morrison.wsu.edu/studio/

Welcome- Login

Login

First letter of first name and last name (no spaces) Password "history"

Welcome — "your name "

Click on gold hypertext-United States History Active"

Click on gold hypertext :Visit the Speakeasy Café

Active Events & Tables in this café.

Click "event" for description only

Click on "Visit Café"

"Evaluating Native American & Columbus sites"

Read directions.

To Return to Café, Use left side MENU Bar "café"

Choose 1st table "Columbus —Hero or Villain" (tables are out of order)

Read directions. Write your groups’ response.

Click: "Add this writing to the Writer’s Exchange".

If you want to make a change

Click: "Erase this information and start over"

Use sidebar menu to return to "café" and you will see your contribution listed. (For example Mr. Posner and Mr. Meyer’s responses.)

To respond to another person/group’s writing, click on that person’s entry and write your response. The program will automatically place the response according to where you are when you submit your entry.

IMPORTANT: Title your entries. This will make it easier for others to choose from the lists.

RESOURCES

This is an area of the café where you can find other people’s recommended web sites, or , add recommendations of your own.

Click "Resources" in the menu sidebar

View recommended sites. These are hyperlinked, so you can get to them by clicking on them.

TO ADD A RESOURCE:

Click on gold hypertext right under the heading . It is important to fill in all fields (boxes).

Category-choose from drop down menu or add a new category.

Name of resource- Name of website

URL- address of website, be sure to include http etc, or copy and paste from website. This line will become hyperlinked.

Briefly describe-write a description of the site & why it is important.

Scale-rate the site 1-5, 5 is the highest.

SEARCH

To look for café exchange, resource or chat room.

MEMBERS

You can update your own profile. Click on the little head to the left of your name and fill in the boxes and submit.

LOG OUT

Be sure to logout from school computers so that others cannot use your account!
